10 people struck in downtown Tucson mass shooting; Officer shoots armed suspect
July 2026: A Tucson police officer shot a man early Sunday morning in the 100 block of East Congress Street after patrol officers assigned to the downtown district heard multiple gunshots in the area and immediately responded on foot, according to Tucson Police. Several people were also struck by gunfire

A powerful monsoon storm swept through Tucson, knocking out power for more than 10,000 people, knocking down trees, flooding streets, washes, and cars across the city.
Catholic bishops unite at Nogales border in support of immigrants
June 2026: Catholic dioceses from across the Southwestern US preached to a united congregation at the Nogales U.S.-Mexico border on Friday on the state of the country, focusing on the treatment of immigrants after a Supreme Court decision scaled back protection for Asylum seekers.
Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona expands hours as SNAP delays leave thousands of families without aid
July 2026: The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is expanding its hours to help families affected by delays and errors in SNAP benefits caused by changes from the Big Beautiful Bill.
Locked out of the washes: Tucson installs metal gates, as unhoused residents seek shelter
March, 2026: The city of Tucson established metal grates on washes around the city to prevent those experiencing homelessness from squatting in them. However, with a housing crisis in effect, some homeless people say, it's their only place left to go.
